To launch Forward: The University of Maryland Campaign for the Fearless, the university partnered with INVNT to design an energizing experience that embodied the “Terrapin spirit” of relentless discovery. The strategic narrative was built around three core pillars—tackling global challenges, expanding academic access, and empowering the next generation to “Do Good”—positioning current institutional breakthroughs as the foundation for future philanthropic investment.
The evening’s choreography mirrored the university’s upward trajectory, beginning with a dramatic reveal that transitioned guests into a high-energy program space. This environment was defined by a custom three-screen cinematic array framed by architectural “glowing arrows.” This design served as both a visual motif for forward momentum and a symbolic representation of the campaign’s accelerating traction and institutional growth.
Cinematic storytelling and live performances were layered to build emotional resonance, culminating in a definitive call to action from the President. Attendees were invited to join the ranks of “the Fearless” in a moment punctuated by a contemporary reimagining of the iconic Maryland flag drop. This storied campus tradition was repurposed as a high-impact sensory signal to mark the campaign’s official commencement.
The event concluded with an interactive reception that functioned as a live research gallery. This experiential format allowed guests to engage directly with the faculty and students behind UMD’s most ambitious projects, transforming abstract campaign goals into personal connections. By bridging the gap between donors and visionaries, the event fostered a deep commitment to the university’s real-world impact.
